South Dakota Senator John Thune recently questioned Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross on the trade policy currently put in place by the Trump administration.  Tariffs on our largest trading partners, including China and Canada among others, has led to market uncertainty in an already fragile farm economy.


Thune says though he appreciates the effort to put pressure on China to act in good faith in international trade, he is worried these decisions could hurt consumers…



Thune spoke specifically about the farm issue specifically…



Thune also spoke about the President’s decision to withdraw from the Trans-Pacific Partnership or TPP trade deal.  That decision, mixed with this brewing trade war, left Thune skeptical how willing the administration is to allowing better access to markets for South Dakota farmers…
