Two people from Big Stone City, S.D., have been identified as the two people who died in a two-vehicle crash Monday afternoon north of Milbank.

A 2016 Chevrolet Equinox was northbound on South Dakota Highway 15. A 1994 Mack Ch600 Dump Truck was westbound on 145th Street and failed to stop at the stop sign at the intersection with South Dakota Highway 15. The two vehicles collided in the intersection.

Both occupants of the Equinox were pronounced dead at a Milbank hospital. They were the driver, 79-year-old Arlo Hurley, and the passenger, 71-year-old Kathleen Hurley.

Gerald Boerger, 82, of Milbank was the truck driver. He sustained life-threatening injuries and was later airlifted to a Sioux Falls hospital.

All three people were wearing seatbelts. Charges are pending against the truck driver.

South Dakota’s Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.

The Highway Patrol is part of the South Dakota Department of Public Safety.
