The South Dakota House of Representatives voted 46-21 against a bill which would have given teachers more leeway in injecting skepticism into scientific subjects.  Similar legislation failed in 2017 as well.  Proponents of the legislation say it would protect teachers to allow them to explore ideas critically and help develop student critical thinking skills.  Opponents say the legislation is a backdoor for special interests to enter the classroom by allowing teachers to go against the overwhelming scientific consensus on topics such as climate change or evolution.
