A coalition of Christian clergy have announced they have formed a group to support Constitutional Amendment G or codifying a woman’s right to an abortion in the state constitution. The 35 church leaders come from five Christian denominations including the United Methodist Church, Presbyterian Church USA, Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, the Episcopal Church and the United Church of Christ. In a statement about the group’s support, the clergy members say health care decisions are best left to the patients in consultation with families and health care providers. The Sioux Falls and Rapid City Dioceses of the Catholic Church have both come out against Amendment G. Proponents argue it restores roe vs. wade protections while opponents argue it is too extreme.
