The Aberdeen Police Department reports officers were involved in a standoff with a suspect following shots fired late Tuesday night. According to police gunshots were reported to officers in the back yard of a residence in the 1700 block of 9th avenue southwest. Upon arrival officers began communicating with a person who was upset. Other occupants within the home were able to leave safely. The department’s Special Response Team was brought in to begin negotiating with the suspect. This went on for several hours according to police. Eventually officers were able to resolve the situation peacefully. The suspect was taken into custody and now faces reckless discharge of a firearm charges. Officers also executed a search warrant on the home and took a hand gun as evidence.
