Aberdeen Wings select three prospects in NAHL entry draft

(Aberdeenwings.com) The Aberdeen Wings drafted three players Wednesday afternoon during the 2023 NAHL Draft.  The number of players each team is able to draft varies on that team’s current roster (protected list) minus the number 30. Each team’s roster is comprised of veteran players and signed tenders only. For example, if a team has 15 veterans rostered and 8 tenders (23 total), that team is allowed seven (7) draft picks.

Eligible teams shall make selections in each round in reverse order of their finish in the 2022-23 NAHL regular-season standings. New member clubs shall have their order of selection determined by lottery. If there is only one new member club, it shall have the first selection in each round.

The Wings selected 19th overall and took Forward Riley Sharun.  Riley is a 6’2 179lb Forward from West Kelowna, BC, Canada.  The 19 year old right handed shot played last season with the West Kelowna Warriors of the BCHL.  He has 18 points (10 goals, 8 assists) in 47 games played.  He was also a part of the 18-19 BCEHL U17 Championship Team. “Riley Sharun is a player we expect to lean off heavily as a leader and as a producer. He is a kid who brings a ton of tenacity and excels at the finer details of the game which we will look for our young guys to learn from. He plays championship type hockey and we couldn’t be more excited to have him.”- Wings Head Coach & GM Scott Langer.

Simon Pollock was selected in the second round, 51st overall.  Simon is a 6’2 185lb left handed forward from Santa Rosa, CA.  The 19 year old played last season with the Weyburn Red Wings of the SJHL.  Simon played in 45 games and had 10 goals and 10 assists.  “Simon Pollock is a player that will be a big piece for us this year as he can be a Swiss Army knife. He is good at a lot of different things and will be able to add so many different aspects to our team.  He plays hard and heavy and isn’t afraid of anything. He will definitely be a fan favorite come September.” – Wings Head Coach & GM Scott Langer

The Wings third and final selection, JP Johnson came in the 3rd round, 83rd overall.  JP is a 19 year old right handed forward from St. Michael, MN.  The 5’11 165lb forward played the 22-23 season with the Gillette Wild of the NA3HL.  In 44 games JP put up 34 goals and 36 assists, and had a +32 (+ -).  He was awarded NA3HL First All Rookie Team honors during the 22-23 season.  “JP Johnson is a player who plays hard and with good pace. He has a knack for scoring goals and finds open ice, to make plays. Johnson can play a very solid 200 foot game and will be someone who will play along the wall and in the tough areas. He finished 10th in the NA3HL in scoring with 34 goals and 36 assists, for the Gillette Wild.” – Director of Player Personnel Craig Larson
