Alvin Nyangau named assistant coach for Northern State women’s basketball

Northern State University head women’s basketball coach Paula Krueger announced the addition of Alvin Nyangau as an assistant coach on her staff. Nyangau joins the Wolves staff after stints at North Dakota State University and Upper Iowa University and will serve as the team’s second assistant.

“Alvin brings experience in the NSIC and has strong recruiting connections in the Midwest,” noted Krueger. “We are excited to add him to our staff.”

“I am super excited to join Coach Krueger’s staff,” explained Nyangau. “Northern State women’s basketball is a program with outstanding tradition and a long history of success. I look forward to continuing that tradition as we build this program for the future.”

Most recently, Nyangau was the director of basketball operations for the North Dakota State University men’s program. He is no stranger to the NSIC serving as both a graduate assistant coach (2019-21) and assistant coach (2021-22) for the women’s program at Upper Iowa University.

While on staff at UIU, he oversaw multiple areas of the program including team travel, compliance, academics, equipment, and campus visits. In addition, Nyangau recruited the Midwest region, oversaw the guards and wings, managed team social media accounts, and managed the defensive preparations for game day.

Nyangau began his coaching career as an assistant at Orono Public Schools (Minnesota). While working towards his bachelor’s degree, Nyangau was a student manager for the North Dakota State University women’s basketball program. He earned his bachelor of science in Spot Management from North Dakota State and master’s in Sport Administration from Upper Iowa University.
