The case working its way through the courts regarding Amendment G will not be heard until December. Amendment G will be on the ballot this coming November and if made law, would enshrine a woman’s right to an abortion in the South Dakota constitution. That means the matter will not be solved until after the November election and voters have made their decision. The lawsuit has been filed by the Life Defense Fund, an anti-abortion group seeking to keep Amendment G off the ballot. The group argues Dakotan’s for Health, the group who brought the amendment forward broke South Dakota law while acquiring signatures to get the measure on the ballot. Dakotan’s for Health denies any wrongdoing.
