A bill sponsored by South Dakota Representative Dusty Johnson aimed at protecting the site of the Wounded Knee Massacre passed unanimously out of committee Tuesday. The “Wounded Knee Massacre Memorial and Sacred Site Act” would prevent the sale of the site without the consent of congress and the two tribes who currently own the land. The two tribes include the Cheyenne River Sioux and Oglala Sioux. The bill will now head to the full house for further consideration.
