The U.S. Department of Agriculture reports a highly contagious strain of bird flu has been discovered in commercial poultry flocks in Utah and South Dakota. The confirmed cases in South Dakota were in a 47,300 turkey flock in Jerauld County. The diseases was discovered on October 4th. This is the first confirmed case of bird flu since the diseases was confirmed in South Dakota back in April. Generally the birds will be euthanized to prevent the spread and the farm will be decontaminated. Last year bird flu killed 59 million birds across 47 states.
