(KWAT – Watertown, SD) A Brookings County man has died from an accidental, self-inflicted gunshot.
The Brookings County Sheriff’s Office says deputies were dispatched to a residence Tuesday afternoon on a report of an accident involving a firearm.
Their investigation determined a man had been target shooting with a pistol, and while walking back from the target, he needed to cross a cattle panel fence.
While doing so, the pistol inadvertently fired and struck the man once.
When first responders arrived at the scene, live saving measures were attempted, but were unsuccessful.
Theman killed is identified as 44 year-old Steven Hanson of rural Sinai.
The death remains under investigation by the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office.
