Brookings Police Department seize roughly $150,000 in drugs from routine traffic stop

The Brookings Police Department reports a routine traffic stop resulted in the confiscation of roughly $150,000 worth of drugs.

Police accounts state, officers made the stop around 9:30 a.m. Sunday near a gas station by the I/29 Highway 14 interchange. Upon stopping the vehicle, officers suspected quote “factors of criminal activity” and brought in a canine officer. Further investigation revealed about 30 pounds of suspected methamphetamine and one pound of fentanyl. Officers also seized $5,100 in cash.

55-year-old Jose Gonzalez and 28-year-old Marquez Gonzalez both of California were arrested and face a litany of drug charges.
