(KBHB – Sturgis, SD) The Meade County Sheriff’s Office says a bull had to be put down after it escaped and attacked a man Thursday.
Authorities say the bull had escaped its enclosure on Iron Drive and seriously injured a male who had sought refuge in a nearby residence.
The bull was euthanized after law enforcement arrived after it was determined it was an imminent threat to public safety and had already injured an individual. The bull’s owner concurred with the decision by law enforcement because first responders were unable to reach the injured individual for treatment.
Once the animal was neutralized, the injured male was taken by life flight helicopter to a hospital.
The Meade County Sheriff’s Office says the decision to dispatch the bull was not taken lightly and it was made in the best interest of public safety.
