DCI determines lethal use of force justified by Rapid City police in Feb. 3rd hostage situation

The South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation has released a report looking into an officer involved shooting in Rapid City on February 3rd. According to the report, investigators have determined the officer was justified in using lethal force during a hostage situation. The incident occurred at a Rapid City gas station when officers arrived to a robbery in progress. The suspect brandishing a knife took the clerk hostage and a standoff began. Investigators say Officer was able to separate the hostage and the suspect, but the suspect, identified as Erik James Wright would comply no further. Wright then began to run at officers and was shot several times. He would later die at a Rapid City hospital.
