DCI investigating death in state penitentiary

The South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation is looking into an inmates death inside the South Dakota Department of Corrections. 31-year-old Ray Palacio was transported overnight from the state penitentiary in Sioux Falls to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead. Palacio was serving a sentence for possession of a controlled substance in Roberts County. A press release about the situation released by state officials claims the suspect may have died as the result of suicide.
