The director of the South Dakota Republican party Madison Sheehan is leaving that position to accept a cabinet position with the Governor-elect of Louisiana Jeff Landry’s administration. Sheehan is leaving South Dakota to serve as the Secretary of the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries. Landry has been in charge of the day-to-day operations of the Republican Party of South Dakota since January. She came to South Dakota following Governor Kristi Noem’s announcement of her “defend Title IX” initiative. The initiative was founded after Governor Noem signed the fairness in women’s sports bill, preventing trans women and girls from participating in sports that match their gender identity.
