The South Dakota Department of Health reports the first death related to influenza this 2023-24 flu season. The resident was a Minnehaha county male in his 80s. He passed away in October according to the DOH. So far there have been three hospitalizations and 13 total cases of influenza this flu season. South Dakota as a whole has 32 cases. The Department of Health recommends everyone over the age of six months get a yearly flu vaccine to protect themselves from the virus.
