Edmunds County voters approve $7.4 million new jail project

Voters in Edmunds County approved a new county jail Tuesday. Voters approved the proposed $7.4 million project via 67 percent of the vote. The jail will hold 40 beds and include officers for the sheriff’s department and a dispatch center. According to the Edmunds County auditor 808 votes were cased with 542 being in favor of the new jail, 266 opposed. That is approximately 30 percent voter turnout. The new jail is planned to be built in Ipswich northeast of the courthouse on the same city block. The project likely won’t be completed for about a year in a half.
