Former South Dakota House minority leader and Democrat nominee for governor Jamie Smith announced Monday he plans to run for the State Senate representing District 15. Smith served in the state house of representatives from 2019 to 2023, serving as minority leader in 2022. Smith lost the 2022 Gubernatorial race to Governor Kristi Noem 62 to 35 percent. District 15 incumbent state senator Linda Duba, a fellow Democrat, announced she would not seek re-election due to the birth of her first grand child.
