Former president Trump heavily favored according to new polling, but not as popular in SD as 2016 and 2020

Former president Donald Trump remains far and away the preferred candidate for most South Dakota Voters according to a poll released by South Dakota News Watch and the Chiesman Center for Democracy at the University of South Dakota. However, he is struggling to hit the same numbers he did when he first ran in 2016. The poll spoke with 500 registered voters, 50 percent of respondents preferred the former president while 31 percent supported President Joe Biden. 11 percent supported third party challenger Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and 7 percent remained undecided. While Trump leads Biden in South Dakota according to the polling, he is well short of the 62 percent he received at the polls in South Dakota post in 2016 and 2020.
