Former University of South Dakota women’s basketball player Bridget Schumacher passes away unexpectedly

A former University of South Dakota women’s basketball player has passed away. The team posted to its social media Monday night the loss of Bridget Arens Schumacher and asked for thoughts and prayers for her family. According to Schumacher’s obituary she passed away unexpectedly on Friday October 25^th 2024 at the age of 30. She was at Avera Sacred Heart Hospital in Yankton. A Crofton Nebraska native, she played four seasons for South Dakota between 2014-15 through 2016-17. She holds the career record for games played at 137 and was the Female Scholar Athlete of the year in 2016-17.
