Gov. Noem again applies for fireworks at Mount Rushmore in 2024

The South Dakota Department of Tourism, on behalf of South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem, has already submitted an application to host a fireworks display at Mount Rushmore July 4th 2024. The application was submitted to the National Parks Service who oversees Mt. Rushmore. The Biden administration denied Governor Noem and the state’s request to host fire works this year citing concerns regarding fire and ground water contamination. Fireworks displays have been held on and off at Mt. Rushmore for years, most recently in 2020 under former President Donald Trump.
