Today is December 7th 2022, the anniversary of the Japanese surprise attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941. On that day, the Empire of Japan conducted a surprise attack on a naval base in Hawaii that resulted in approximately 2,335 total people killed and 1,143 wounded. 208 of those were American soldiers. The attack has gone down in history as the event that woke the sleeping giant and brought the United States into World War II. South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem has ordered flags to fly at half staff today statewide in honor of Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day.
