Gov. Noem to send SD National Guard troops to the border once again

South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem announced Friday more South Dakota National Guard troops will be deployed to the US/Mexico border this fall. This deployment will be part of a federal effort this time . Governor Noem has defended sending South Dakota troops to the US/Mexico border by claiming drug cartels from Mexico are operating on South Dakota tribal lands, this the situation at the border is a matter of state security back home. The State legislature agreed with Governor Noem and passed HB 1061 last session allocating nearly $4.3 million to the special emergency disaster special revenue fund to finance the deployment.
