High speed chase ends in three arrests in Hughes County

(KCCR – Pierre, SD) Less than a week after a high-speed chase by law enforcement ended in Stanley County another high-speed chase took place in Hughes County Tuesday night. Hughes County Sheriff Patrick Callahan says the chase began late Tuesday afternoon when Hughes County deputies located a vehicle with three people inside on Dakota Avenue near the John Waldron Memorial Bridge. The driver of the vehicle was wanted by law enforcement for undisclosed reasons. As deputies and Pierre Police Officers attempted to pull the vehicle over, it accelerated at a high rate of speed. The vehicle raced through central Pierre east toward Highway 34 and continued east into Hughes County. Pursuing law enforcement reported speeds during the chase of well over 100 miles per hour. Tribal police took over the chase as it crossed into the Crow Creek Indian Reservation; where the three occupants were detained into tribal custody. Detained from the incident are Perry Wade Crow Jr. of Sioux Falls; Austin Charles Depris of Pierre and Sheyenne Leshea Gonzales of Pierre. Callahan says all of the agencies involved in the pursuit have specific policies regarding pursuits and the safety of the public is always top priority. Charges are being filed in Hughes County in the case. Assisting Hughes County were the South Dakota Highway Patrol, Pierre Police and Crow Creek Tribal Police.
