House Bill 1053, preventing pregnant women from receiving medical marijuana passes out of committee

(South Dakota Broadcasters Association) This morning (Tuesday), a South Dakota House committee passed a bill preventing physicians from certifying pregnant and breastfeeding women for a medical marijuana card.

House Bill 1053 passed the House Health and Human Services Committee on a party-line 11 to 2 vote.

Dr. Benjamin Aaker (acre), an emergency room doctor from Brandon and a supporter of the bill. 

Bill opponent, Democratic Rep. Erin Healy from Sioux Falls.

The bill now goes to the House for consideration.

Bill sponsor, Republican Fred Deutsch (doi-itch) of Florence, says South Dakota would be the first state to adopt such a law should it pass.
