The South Dakota Department of Corrections reports an inmate has died in its custody. According to the DOC, 41-year-old Madit Borthok passed way Friday July 7th at the Jameson Annex of the South Dakota State Penitentiary. Borthok was serving a sentence on second-degree rape and simple assault on law enforcement charges out of Minnehaha county. He would have been eligible for release in 2029. No further details about the cause of death were released.
