An inmate at the South Dakota State Penitentiary in Sioux Falls was found dead in his cell from an apparent suicide. According to the state Department of Corrections, 60-year-old John Lewis was found unresponsive in the Jameson Annex on July 13th. Live saving measures were taken by staff, but they were unable to resuscitate the inmate. Lewis was serving two life sentences for attempted first-degree murder and an additional 120 years for grand theft, possession of a controlled weapon and possession of a controlled substances all in Minnehaha county.
