Iowa farmers see important July rains

Iowa’s climatologist says widespread rain events this week have come at an ideal time.

“These are the million dollar rainfalls we talk about every growing season when we are in drought conditions,” said Justin Glisan.

He tells Brownfield the moisture won’t mitigate drought-impacted areas, but, “These rainfalls we’re seeing now are good to replenish our topsoil and the shallow depths of our subsoil moisture profiles.”

Glisan says current outlooks indicate cooler-than-average trends the rest of the month.
