Iowa woman accused of stealing more than $1.7 million in state funds to stand trial Dec. 4

An Iowa woman accused of stealing more than $1.7 million in state and federal funds from the State division of Child Protection Services has pleaded not guilty. 68-year-old Lonna Carroll appeared in a Hughes county courthouse Tuesday. The judge in this case rejected Carroll’s representation’s request to be released on personal recognizance bond. Instead the judge ordered a $50,00 cash bond. Carroll is alleged to have written herself extra payroll checks to herself and got away with it for a while due to a lack of oversight. A trial date has been set for Dec. 4 2024.
