Irish singer-songwriter Sinead O’Conner passes away at 56

Irish singer songwriter Sinead O’Conner passed away Wednesday at the age of 56. The singer’s family released a statement about her passing Wednesday and it was first reported by the BBC. O’Conner began her career singing on the streets of Dublin and eventually rose to international fame. Known for her shaved head and non-conformity, O’Conner was a beacon of controversy throughout her career. One of her most infamous was in 1992 when she tore a picture of Pope John Paul II to protest child sexual abuse within the church.
