Jason Salamun elected 59th mayor of Rapid City

Rapid City held a mayoral election Tuesday night, electing Jason Salamun as the city’s 59th mayor. He garnered 4,888 votes or 38 percent of the vote. Following Salamun was Laura Armstrong in second place with 4,619 votes or 30 percent, Ron Weifenbach in third with 2,999 votes or 19 percent, Brad Estes in fourth with 2,769 or 18 percent and finishing in last place was Josh Lyle with 150 votes or one percent. Salamun will replace current mayor Steve Allender who recently announced he would not seek re-election. Allender has been mayor of Rapid city for eight years.
