Some varieties of Jif peanut butter have been recalled due to salmonella concerns. According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, 21 people across 17 states have reportedly been contaminated with salmonella, four of those people have been hospitalized but so far no deaths have been reported. The peanut butter on recall was sold worldwide. You can check if your peanut butter is part of the recall by checking the numbers listed on the label. If your peanut butter jar has the first four numbers 1274 through 2140 and the next three numbers are 450 it is part of the recall and should not be consumed by humans or pets.
