Ipswich man pleads guilty to bestiality charges

An Ipswich man has pleaded guilty to two counts of felony bestiality Wednesday.  According to court documents, the first incident involving 57-year-old James Schumacher took place between April of 2016 and January of 2017 and the second took place in July of 2017.  Each charge carries a maximum penalty of two years in prison and a $4,000 fine.  A sentencing date has not yet been announced.  Schumacher originally faced six counts, but had four dropped after accepting a plea agreement with prosecutors.  Schumacher’s attorney had also tried to get the case dismissed on the grounds it was unconstitutional, but that was rejected by the judge.
