A Yankton, S.D., man has been identified as the person who died Saturday in a one-vehicle crash near Lesterville.
A 1983 Ford Mustang was westbound on 430th Avenue when the driver lost control. The vehicle went into ditch, hit a field approach, went airborne and caught fire after landing.
All three male occupants were ejected from the vehicle and airlifted to a Sioux Falls hospital. One of the two passengers, Saul Renteria, 20, later died from his injuries.
The driver, 29-year-old Jonathan Roubideaux of Utica, S.D., and the other passenger, 25-year-old Javier Renteria, Jr. of Yankton, both suffered life-threatening injuries. Charges are pending against the driver. Seatbelt use by the three is under investigation.
South Dakota’s Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
