The Puerto Rican government Tuesday released numbers showing the death toll from Hurricane Maria is much larger than initially reported.  Shortly after the hurricane hit the Caribbean island in September of 2017, and estimated 64 people were killed.  That number has risen to 2,975 after the release of an independent study and included individuals who died as a result of the desperate situation and lack of response months after the storm.  Senators Kristen Gillibrand of New York and Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts are calling for an independent investigation into the federal governments response.
