One person died and another was injured late Tuesday afternoon in a one-vehicle crash west of Piedmont.
Names of the two people involved are not being released pending notification of family members.
A 2010 Dodge Ram pickup was eastbound on Interstate 90 at a high rate of speed. The vehicle entered the transition area into a construction zone where the driver lost control. The vehicle struck several construction cones before it entered the median area and rolled several times.
The 39-year-old male driver was ejected from the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene. The 39-year-old male passenger was taken by ambulance to the Rapid City hospital. Neither man was wearing a seatbelt.
South Dakota’s Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
