The Cook political report, an independent non-partisan online newsletter which rates elections for the house, senate and congress made noise in South Dakota late last weekend. In its latest report, Cook moved the South Dakota governor’s race from likely Republican to a toss up. Other states governor races changed including Minnesota which went from lean Democrat to likely Democrat, Illinois which move the same and Oklahoma which went from likely Republican to lean Republican. No matter what happens in November, this election will be historic. If Billie Sutton wins he will be the first Democrat elected since 1978 while if Kristi Noem wins she will be the first women to serve as the state’s governor.
