Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristjen Nielsen is out after resigning from the position Sunday. It was disputed in reports Sunday whether or not Nielsen was resigning under her own volition or if President Trump was forcing her to do so. Nielsen oversaw the department after taking over for general John Kelly who went on to become President Trump’s chief of staff. Under her leadership, the United States implemented the now controversial family separation policy for migrants seeking asylum at the southern border. President Trump has named current commissioner of US Customs and Border patrol Kevin McAleenan as her replacement.
