The State of South Dakota is looking to close 40 orphaned natural gas wells near Buffalo South Dakota, up in the northwest corner of the state. According to the Associated Press, they are owned by the company Spyglass Cedar Creek out of Houston Texas. The company has already been fined $15.5 million for abandoning them. The holes were drilled back in 2006, but due to falling gas prices, lawsuits and lender’s bankruptcy, the company could not further work on the project. It will cost the state almost $1 million to plug up the holes.
