A Mobridge man has been granted parole after serving 23 of his 100 year first degree manslaughter and rape charges. According to the Aberdeen American News, the state board of pardons and parolees granted 54-year-old Nicholas Scherr parole April 17th.
He will likely be released with in the next three to four weeks. Scherr was found guilty of the rape and murder of 18-year-old Candace Rough Surcace in the 1980s. A rancher found her body full of bullet wounds in a shallow bay on Lake Oahe nine months after she had been reported missing.
