A St. Francis woman has been sentenced to over two years in prison for accidentally killing a child by smothering it. According to the U.S. Attorney’s office 22-year-old Chelsea Nixon will serve 13 months for involuntary manslaughter, which she pleaded guilty to February 7th. Nixon fell asleep while bottle-feeding her child in August of 2018. After falling asleep her shoulder ended up covering the child’s face, blocking its airway and the child eventually died of asphyxiation. She had admitted to being up late the night before, using methamphetamine.
