The Brown County Commission Tuesday talked about the budget situation at its meeting. According to commissioners, officials need to close a $4 million gap between department requests and revenue. The idea of “opting out” of state imposed caps on property tax increases was discussed. However, a move like that would need to pass a public vote. The possibility of closing the juvenile detention center was also discussed. The commission also voted 3-2 to not approve the hiring of a museum operation manager despite the advice of the Dacotah Priarie leaders.
