South Dakota lawmakers send letter to Washington delegation opposing "red flag" laws

A group of South Dakota lawmakers Tuesday sent a letter to South Dakota Senators Mike Rounds, John Thune and Representative Dusty Johnson opposing any kind of potential “red flag” laws passed in the wake of two mass shootings earlier this month.  The effort spearheaded by Representative Stace Nelson of Fulton was cosigned by 26 current and former state lawmakers.  Red Flag laws allow for law enforcement to remove weapons from individuals deemed dangerous to themselves or others until the safety of the person and community is adjudicated.
