(KOKK - Huron, SD) The bodies of two missing Huron men have been recovered from a waste lagoon east of town.
The men are identified as 29-year-old Mauricio Lopez-Morales and 23-year-old Francisco Artemio Lopez-Ramos.
Yesterday, October 7th, the Huron Police Department received a call of what appeared to be a motor vehicle accident with damage to a fence at the lagoons.
Upon further investigation, a body was located in the lagoon.
The Beadle County Dive Team located a 2009 Toyota Corolla that was submerged in the water. During the removal of the car, a second body was recovered.
It appears as though the car left 4th St SE at the intersection of Custer Ave SE, going through the ditch and the fence and then into the lagoon. It appears to be a one-vehicle accident. Authorities believe speed and alcohol may have been a factor in the crash.
Both males were listed as missing on Sunday, Oct. 6th, and were last seen on Saturday, Oct. 5th, at 9:30 pm.
Assisting with the investigation were the Huron Fire Department, Beadle County Dive Team, Beadle County Sheriff’s Office, Beadle County Coroner, and the Huron Police Department.
The investigation is ongoing at this time.
