A former Sanford Health neurosurgeon is being sued by the Department of Justice for defrauding the public by performing unnecessary surgeries, one which even left a patient partially paralyzed.  According to the DOJ, Dr. Wilson Asfora enriched himself by using medical devices he invented during surgeries, receiving kickbacks from companies for doing and not disclosing the information.  Asfora worked for Sanford from 2007 to August of 2019 when his activities were outed by a whistleblower.  Sanford paid $20 million to the whisle blower in a lawsuit, but denies any wrongdoing in the Asfora case.
