Smithfield Foods in Sioux Falls has announced it will resume operations Today. In a press release, Smithfield claims they have received confirmation from the CDC and USDA that they are in compliance with CDC and OSHA guidelines making it safe to return to work. The company has announced a phase approach to resuming operations and hopes to be back in full operation by late May. The plant has been closed down for three weeks after becoming one of the worst COVID-19 hotspots in the nation. 1,098 cases of COVID-19 have been linked to the plant in its employees or their close contacts and two deaths.
