The Aberdeen Parks and Recreation board met Wednesday night in a special meeting to address the status of the Aberdeen Aquatic Center this summer. The Parks and Rec board decided to recommend not to open the pool this summer citing both financial and health concerns due to COVID-19. The proposal discussed, but ultimately decided against, was to allow the pool to open at a maximum capacity of 300 people at a time, well short of its 1,400 max capacity. Operating at half capacity would likely lead to a loss of an estimated $75,000 to $150,000 that would need to be made up from elsewhere in the budget.
