The Brown County Fair Board held a special meeting Monday and reiterated its unanimous vote to cancel the 2020 Brown County Fair.  Brown County Commissioner Rachel Kippley attended the meeting and seemed to seek a compromise between the fair board’s desire to postpone due to COVID-19 and the Commission’s desire to have some sort of smaller event at the fairgrounds this summer.


No fair board members in attendance were willing to change their vote, call for a new vote and seemed reluctant to want to help put on a smaller event.  Board member Schumacher summed up her feelings…





At the Brown County Commission meeting last Tuesday, it was announced the “Nitty Gritty Dirt Band” has canceled its performance scheduled for the week of the fair.  The fair also never publicly announced a rock night act.  On top of that, the fair has lost its carnival, but there is a possibility it can salvage something on that end according to Fair Board Manager Derrick Ricci.


At Monday’s meeting it was also announced there has been a positive case of COVID-19 in the fair board office and at least one board member, Kody Schochenmaier has already resigned over the situation. 


Commissioner Kippley admitted doing any event of any size is going to require the fair board’s involvement…





The Commission has plans to address the issue again at its Tuesday morning meeting, but it still could push back the decision a few more weeks.
