The South Dakota Supreme Court Thursday announced its decision a state circuit court judge did not act improperly giving a long sentence to a 17-year-old convicted of second-degree murder. Judge Heidi Linngren was found in the right unanimously by the state’s highest court the 90-year sentence she handed down to Carlos Quevedo was not disproportionate. Quevedo pleaded guilty to stabbing Kasie Lord of Rapid City to death. She was a convenience store clerk trying to stop him and an accomplice from stealing beer. He is eligible for parole at the age of 62.
